    Pop ups Galore
    « on: December 22, 2008, 07:57:37 PM »
On the 16Th of December, my computer was bombarded with pop ups. Mainly pop ups that were relevant to my interests, such as education and gaming. Those pesky "your computer may be infected" pop unders drove me crazy... so I figured it was some sort of spyware that was responsible. After scanning my PC with the spyware and antivirus programs that I have (CA Security Internet Suite), Vundo and Darksma kept coming up on in the results. Every time I removed them, they came back. They were showing up in my registry files as [contim. ms juan, mstracker and mr ....er...something or other] These pop up caused my computer to freeze up at times and become unresponsive. Now after a week of battling this between final assignments for class, I found this site and followed the instruction for removing malware. The log files are attached. On a positive note, the machine is running much smoother now and no pop ups so far. Thank you guys for this site, it's awesome! Let me know what else there is to do...hopefully I didn't screw up...tried to follow instructions to the "T"

Download ComboFix by sUBs from one of the below links.  Be sure to save it to the Desktop.

      http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/ComboFix.exe
      http://subs.geekstogo.com/ComboFix.exe

Close any open web browsers (Firefox, Internet Explorer, etc) before starting ComboFix.

Temporarily disable your anti-virus, and any anti-spyware real-time protection before performing a scan. Click this link to see a list of security programs that should be disabled and how to disable them.

Double-click combofix.exe and follow the prompts.
When finished, ComboFix will produce a log for you.
Post the ComboFix log and a new HijackThis log in your next reply.

NOTE: Do not mouseclick ComboFix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

Remember to re-enable your anti-virus and anti-spyware protection when ComboFix is complete.
