3Gb RAM but my PC is halting
    « on: December 29, 2008, 03:19:43 AM »
had 2x512 TWINMOSS RAM and bought, as I thought I did, 2 x 512 in addition...starting my PC the new 2 x 512 was all of a sudden transformed into 2 x 1024, nice I thought, double capacity for half the price...oh nooooooooooo, the trouble was starting right away. As soon as I downloaded something from the Net, I couldnt use ANY application anymore, Its seemed as every RAM unit was used by the simple downloadprocess(regardless size...)...could it be that 3Gb RAM is too much for a 2Ghz PC?

Have a AMD 64 3200+ 2.01Ghz (asus), 3Gb RAM (acc to device manager and machine properties although Dr Hardware states only 2048...), XP +SP3, IE70, AVG, Sygate

Remove the 2 512 sticks and see if things improve...
Is it the correct RAM ? ?
You can travel to Crucial.com to find out.
There you can enter your specs or let it scan your machine.

it is the correct RAM, same type, same serial numbers, just the last digit shows its not 2 x 512 but 2 x 1024...sticks are in the same "colour"slots....will have a check on them at the site you mentioned...thanks for the advise...will report back ;D

Who the heck is Dr. Hardware ? ?
        I've not met him yet...
Did you try it with just the new RAM ? ?
You're not giving us alot to go on here...
What does it mean that Crucial's site isn't giving any clues ? ?
It should tell you all you need to know.

well, removed the oldest strips so I was left with the newest 2 x 1024, but the problem is still the same....when I click on a software with my rightclick, nothing happens until the optionwindow slowly start to merge from almost not readable to normal readable. If I just download one file from for instance windows update the rest of my software is almost not reachable, let alone executable. so now I dont know what to do ??? ???

Mentioned site does NOT give me any clous at all about my RAM, sorry and uh,  DR Hardware shows what hardware you have....easy to understand I thought ::) and my Samsung C:\ is 90% empty....did a Samsung HD test and there are no issues.... :'( is the amount of RAM "kind of connected" (in relation to) to the chip? In this respect that 3gigs RAM could not be handled by a 2.01Ghz motherboard?

Did you download and run the testing program? The website is very accurate (www.crucial.com)

Gives me the impression that you just looked around on the website.
You have to run the program.

            ok ;D

Conclusion: everything is ok, advised to increase to 4Gb but I have 32bits XP...so 3 should work, but it doesnt....as said...

try removing the 2x 1024 sticks (they could be faulty or not supported)
there is a small chance of your motherboard not supporting more than 2gb ram- but that is unlikely, do you know the brand and model?

                  MBoard Model # ?
Complete description and manuf. of the new RAM ( don't say simply PC400 here ) ? ?

And is this the same machine that is having issues in the other thread ? ?

will this do?no, I guess not, here the truth...lol...taken from the specification of the bill..

                    Asus A8N-SLI nForce4 SLI, Socket-939 ATX, S-ATA, GbLAN, Firewire, DDR, PCI-Ex1
                    TwinMOSS PC3200 DDR-DIMM 512 Mb Dual pack, Kit w/two matched PC3200 CL2.5 DDRs
TwinMOSS PC3200 DDR-DIMM 1024 Mb Dual Pack, Kit w/two matched PC3200 CL2.5 DDRs(these should have been the same as the first ones, but "ffortunately" they made a mistake to give me 2x1024 instead of 2x512 but then the problems started)
                    AMD Athlon 64 3200+ 2.01Ghz Socket 939, 512 Kb, Boxed w/fan

and YES it's the same machine that has other issues...lol ;D and according to the test on www.crucial.com everything seems quite ok ::)

If you do a search for TwinMOSS issues there's only about 94,000 hits on google...
Next purchase you may want to consider Corsair, OCZ or Crucial RAM if you want a system you can rely on/
