PCI Video Question
« on: January 01, 2009, 01:01:05 PM »
I recently purchased a motherboard/processor combination with on-board video. The motherboard works great, but unfortunately it has only a PCI slot and no PCI-Express. I am pleased with my purchase, but I'd like to upgrade the video capabilities. I'd like to spend around $100 and I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on a decent card for gaming (Mass Effect, Crisis, etc.). Obviously, I'm looking for a Video card to play these games on low to medium settings. Thanks for any input in advance.

Get a PCI card of 16/24 or 32-bits that meets your motherboard requirement

Just curious, but exactly what other options are there for cards nowadays?

PCI video cards are usually fairly limited in capabilities. However, there are a number of good prospects for your situation; almost any PCI GeForce card above the 6600FX will likely meet your requirements.

What kind of motherboard did you get with only PCI slots?
No PCI card will run modern games at medium settings, and they'll likely struggle hugely with low settings too.
I think the Geforce 8500GT is the best card out there, but it's very weak for gaming.
