    Downgrading from vista

    I have just recently downgraded from vista home premium to Windows Xp Professional SP1. My computer is a Emachine w3653a with an Intel Celeron CPU E1200 @ 1.60ghz. In the device manager it says i don't haver drivers for a PCI device, PCI Simple communications controler, SM bus controller, Video controller (VGA Compatible) I am currently connected to the internet but i have no sound or graphics. Any help?

    First, get SP2

    Then go to Device Manager, look for any Yellow Exclamation and Question Marks, and list them here.

      Okay, I just got SP2. The Yellow ! is on. Other Devices. The devices listed are PCI Device, PCI Simple communications controler, SM Bus Control, Video Controller(VGA Compatable)

      You need to re-install the MBoard drivers from the eMachines Driver CD...
      All drivers are wiped out whenever you do a re-install.

        Agrees with Patio.

        Your factory install had all the Vista drivers you needed.  Your XP disc doesn't.

        You'll have to go to your motherboard manufacturer's website (or computer manufacturer's site) and download XP drivers for everything.

        Also, do yourself a favor and slipstream SP2 or 3 into your XP installation source.

          I can't find my mother board name.  It gives me a mother board ID but it says the name is Unknown.

          So you don't have a Driver CD from eMachines ? ?

          This will be tough as they change MBoards as often as i change socks...
          DLoad and install both Everest Home and SIW ( system info for Windows ) and run them both...you may get lucky.

            However it is poorly designed enough that i can't afford to spend 20 minutes there for your drivers...
            On the left click Motherboard...then model # etc and continue on...

              I've never been an ECS fan myself.  Usually with those boards, you get what you pay for...
