Options after buying Pentium d 830 3Ghz processor
    « on: January 02, 2009, 12:16:15 PM »
Bought this new Processor to put in a Gateway 835GM computer. This computer has a Intel Big Lake 945G motherboard. Realize now that new processor takes 945/955X express chipset . My stupidity for not checking past socket on my computer.Thought i could just put new processor in the Gateway 835GM computer and everything would work. So first question is 1.)did i damage processor chip by trying this  fans started high speed then gradually came to stop and monitor showed nothing.Like machine was loaded down and shut off in front. 2.) if processor chip is ok what options do i have. Thanks for help

The only way to test if you burned the CPU is to install it into a board that was designed to handle it...
