how to open XML documents in Vista
    « on: January 07, 2009, 06:57:43 PM »
    Hi

My friend just sent me an email containing a XML document - I opened it and it went to a window saying "to extract all files" I said OK and it went straight to IE (as default) and when I clicked open ...the file contains a lot of codes,..." On my old computer with XP I had no problem opening XML files...not with Vista. Can someone please tell me how to do it in Vista ...thanks

     :o

download a program called textpad and get the addon for xml from here http://www.textpad.com/add-ons/index.html

Textpad does cost but you can just get the evaluation version. Textpad should be on the same web site as the web site above.

      hope that helps,

If it's Office 2007 file, you can open it with OpenOffice: http://www.openoffice.org/

OpenOffice and Office are almost the same thing just that OpenOffice is free and is alot easier to use compared to Office.

OpenOffice and Office are almost the same thing

they do the same thing, but to say they are the same thing is kind of like saying Linux is DOS. Oh wait a second... you DO say that...

come to think of it, I think you might be referring to the kernel, since windows has a kernel, and so does Linux and every other program.

say, does office '03 support XML documents?

I'm not sure if this has been answered, i couldn't be bothered to wade through the bickering, but XML documents will open in notepad.

Just right click and click edit.

                Next time google it.

yes, but I think the original problem was they were "showing their code" which leads ne to believe it was a Office document that was saved as XML, and now being opened on a computer without Office installed.
