      I'll just complete it:

Shandy, as unfortunate as it must seem, piracy will never stop.
There will always be those that upload and there will always be those who download.

Not saying it's good at all but to 'those people', if you can get it for free, why not.

I dont like paying for illegal RIAA fees, and DRM licensing.
If someone I like does a live performance, I'd be glad to go.

I just don't like the DRM crap they had/have on some CDs.

You can always tell, especially when it says it "might not play on all CD-players" Really? It wouldn't be because it's against the red-book standard, would it? But hearing about the Sony DRM issue a while back, I thought- is Sony the only one?

I have since disabled Autoplay permanently and completely.

you can "pirate" movies without breaking the law... just wait for them to show on TV! :)

I haven't paid for an album in years.

I have bought concert tickets. When did art become so commercial?

        Here's a neat idea...

An online band would be pretty cool. I am extremely good at bass keyboard (I play the piano, I read base cleft better than treble)

If I was to be in that band, I'd be quite uncomfortable, lacking arms and legs most of the time. Being a floating head would make me feel uneasy.

there's something oddly comforting about being able to scratch the end of your nose without employing a nearby object. for this reason I would not own cheese graters.

you've got to "join together" with the band!

        Quote
When you hear this sound a-comin'
        Hear the drummers drumming
I want you to join together with the band
We don't move in any 'ticular directions
And we don't make no collections
I want you to join together with the band

Do you really think I care
What you read or what you wear
I want you to join together with the band
There's a million ways to laugh
        And every one's a path
Come on and join together with the band

        Ev'rybody join together
I want you to join together
Come on and join together with the band
We need you to join together
        Come on and join together
Come on and join together with the band

        You don't have to play
You can follow or lead the way
I want you to join together with the band
We don't know where we're goin'
But the season's right for knowin'
I want you to join together with the band

It's the singer not the song
That makes the music move along
I want you to join together with the band
This is the biggest band you'll find
It's as deep as it is wide
Come on and join together with the band

        piracy will never stop.

It is part of western history. Piracy has been glorified as an part of our past that has established the world in which we now live. Somewhere in you history books find that the British promoted piracy at one time because they thought it was in their best interest.

In modem times 'piracy' of copyright material has been justified by business firms that wish to promote themselves and get ahead of their rivals in the free market. However they do not outright say this in public statements. A company that makes DVD R/W drives will defend the rights of any consumer to make copies of anything for private use inside his own family. They will object to anything that would make it hard to copy material without permission, saying it would make the products to complicated and expensive. Yet the technology is there.

you can "pirate" movies without breaking the law... just wait for them to show on TV! :)

Sorry but since that other topic I decided to brush up on some law...you are only allowed to tape off tv for the purpose of "time-shifting" i.e to watch it at a more convenient time, then erase it...

So all those tapes you have from a few years ago? Just as illegal as downloading music.

I meant you could watch it from the TV.

Besides- that makes the whole idea behind a Personal Video Recorder against the law.

you can "pirate" movies without breaking the law... just wait for them to show on TV! :)

Sorry but since that other topic I decided to brush up on some law...you are only allowed to tape off tv for the purpose of "time-shifting" i.e to watch it at a more convenient time, then erase it...

So all those tapes you have from a few years ago? Just as illegal as downloading music.

What tapes? who said anything about tapes?

I meant you could watch it from the TV.

Besides- that makes the whole idea behind a Personal Video Recorder against the law.

Ah, I guess I assumed, but generally, pirating is creating your own copy, yeah? So watching it once, legally, with ad's, isn't piracy at all.

and yes it would make it illegal, but it is true, true and stupid  ::)

they make up new laws so quickly they don't even realize that they are making perfectly legitimate business producing such things as PVR's and PVR software vigilante operations.

oh well. It's better then if I made the laws.

        Here's another neat idea:

the next time some aging group wants to tour and sell concert seats for $300 US, don't buy any.

Possibly just for the purposes of debate i'll stick my oar in. You've seen how madonna lives right? Let me describe myself. I'm a student, i live on loans and a very underpaid part time job. I don't have money to splash on records, even less to buy expensive concert tickets.

Someone in my situation may resort to piracy out of necessity, or in some vein attempt to correct the injustices of capitalism.

but... if people keep pirating music... artists won't be able to afford their solid gold humvee's and diamond studded swimming pools. now whose dishing out injustice?  ;)

Perhaps not consistent with the last few posts:

Metalica put more money into copyright protection and preventing pirating than any other music artist known.
          Know what happened?
It got annoying for some, and the artist made very little money, being as they spent so much of it trying to keep pointless things going.
