The sun is about halfway through it's main sequence, or "life". It is estimated that the sun is about four and a half billion years old.

Scientists predict that the sun will last about ten billion years as a "main sequence" star.

In another four and a half billion years, the sun will enter a Red Giant phase in it's life. During this phase, it will evelope the the three inner planets. So Earth will actually be swallowed by the elderly sun.

For thousands of years, as the sun expands ever close towards the Earth, the temperature will steadily increase. Global warming will take on a whole new meaning as the oceans begin to boil. This is the good news!

Every piece of flora and fauna will be completely obliterated before the sun actually swallows our rock into it's fiery depths.

And it won't matter then anyway- since most of the other stars will have burned out too

New stars and new galaxies are born all of the time.

yes

why didn't you warn us earlier?

by the way - why are you keeping an old calender?

I wasn't purposefully keeping an old calender. I moved into my house during January last year and just got around to unpacking a few of the last boxes and happend to discover the calender. I will be listing it on EBay as a historical prediction to the end of the world if any one is interested. You can "Buy it now" for the low price of $1 trillion dollars.

Not true. Somewhat for the stars bit- but not for the galaxies, as far as we know.

Anyway, everyone knows the universe is getting smaller.

all the galaxies are getting farther apart, as evidenced by their red-shifted spectrum.

Although the world is getting smaller!  ;D

In the early 60's it was predicted that we would be using flying cars by the 90's.

I believe what will happen is 22 Dec 2012 everyone will wake up and start a
new doomsday theory.

Nostradamus predicted 9/11, and he did around 1450!

He also predicts something will happen in 2012, so did some Irish fellow, and a load of other people throughout the world...

I don't know what my view on this is...
