Laptop will not let me sign into websites

my laptop will not let me sign into websites, im using windows xp os i cannot sign into the sites using internet explorer or aol.  At certain times i can sign onto the site using a pc on the same network then it will let me sign in, but not always.

i have no idea what firefox is

It's another browser: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/
Install it, and then we'll see, if this is a browser problem, or something else.

it must be an interner explorer problem because it works fine with fire fox

Good.
Close IE.
Go Start>All Programs>Accessories>System Tools, and click on Internet Explorer (no add-ons). Same problem?

Good. That means, one of you toolbars, or add-ons are giving you a problem.
In IE, go Tools>Internet Options>Advanced tab, and click on "Reset" button.
Everything should be working fine, now.
If so, you may start re-enabling add-ons/toolbars, BUT only one-by-one, until you find the culprit.
Main suspects - toolbars: Google, Yahoo, etc.
