    Replacing NT motherboard
    « on: January 22, 2009, 10:43:38 PM »
I have an old DOS program we use for our business installed on an NT4 system. The program is shared out and mapped to our network. The motherboard (ABIT BP6 DUAL PROC)is failing fast (leaking capacitors) so I need to either replace the board with something that will be NT4 compatible and boot up on first try, or move the drive to another machine that will read the NT drive.
All of our other network PC's are XP PRO. The NT4 box is our server, about 10 years old.
I no longer have a hard copy of the program to install on another PC.
I am afraid if I shut down the NT box, it will not boot again. I have ordered the capacitors to try and repair the ABIT, but even if that is sucessful the drive can not last forever. We need this system all day every day and would very much appreciate any thoughts or ideas.

XP can read the NTFS4 drives. It might silently upgrade them to NTFS5 if you add any files, however.
I was trying to dereference Null Pointers before it was cool.

do you think I can put the nt drive in a XP machine and it will work?
