    PC power consumption
    « on: February 02, 2009, 03:36:13 AM »
I use my PC a lot and am considering buying a laptop to reduce energy consumption and save me some money.

I appreciate that buying the kit will cost but would I be correct in assuming (as a generality) that a laptop will consume less energy than my desktop PC?

It all depends on the actual components in use and how you optimise to save power.
If you want to save some cash on your electricity bill, buying a new computer is unlikely to help - because of the initial expenditure, it's improbable you'll make that back over the lifetime of a computer through energy savings.
Try adjusting your computer's power saving options, turn things off instead of using standby, etc.  There are plenty of better ways to save on your power bill.
