computer doesn't turn on - bypass "on" switch?
« on: February 08, 2009, 04:23:21 PM »
first I have do have power to the computer; the motherboard led power light is on.

When I press the "power on" button, NOTHING happens.  I'm thinking that the switch is bad.

There have several occasions where the computer would go to "stand by" and it would not turn  back on.   I would have to unplug the computer and then turn it back on.  Everything was working fine up though when it booted back up.

Is there a way to bypass the power switch to turn on the computer?

For testing purposes yes, you just short (connect) the two pins for the power switch together (temporarily). Best easy way is to use a metal flat headed screw driver and place it on the two pins for a second or two.
