Changing your IP Address for Windows Vista
    « on: February 09, 2009, 08:33:19 PM »
I've been having problems trying to change my IP Address for Windows Vista.  I've typed in the command prompts but they do not work.  For example, i've typed in ipconfig /release or ipconfig/ renew for specific adapters.  The message that I receive is "The requested operation requires elevation" and I am not sure what that means.  Can someone plz help me?? Thanks in advance :)

    Moved to DOS section.

I'm not sure, but I think you have to start Command Prompt as Administrator.
Right Click it and click Run As Administrator.

    Carbon is right.
You need to run "cmd" as administrator.
Go Start, and in "Start search" type:
    cmd
Hold CTRL, and SHIFT, hit Enter.

thanks carbon and broni..but now i have two msgs that read:

"no operation can be performed on local area connection while it has its media disconnected."
"An error occurred while releasing interface Loopback-Pseudo-Interface 1..the system cannot find the file specified."

In general what I want to do is change my link-local IPv6 address, IPv4 address, my subnet mask, and my gateway for my wireless LAN adapter Wireless Network Connection.  Is this possible??  If so, could someone plz explain it to me? thanks  :)

yes i do have a wireless connection, but I'm having problems with accessing some websites..including my email and things of that nature which I previously could access. It says the page is blocked and access is denied for me to view that content and someone told me that if I changed my IP address that should solve the problem.

if from your router goto the router setup(that's where they come from) and change values(ip/base address ie gateway/etc.) there...if directly from an isp(ie verizon wireless) contact the isp or goto their forums to learn how to change them...

          Good Luck
