Calculating power needs
« on: February 16, 2009, 09:22:51 PM »
When you are looking at a piece of hardware, say a CD drive, how can you tell how much power it draws...

I know that you multiply, the volts by the Amps...........But there are two different voltages listed on a CD drive, for example: I'm looking at a CD drive with specs.    5 volt at 1.2 Amps        &       12 volts at 1.5 Amps........

Which of the two sets do I multiply together to get the total wattage...............OR do I multiply each set and then add the two results ???

Alright I think I got it....The moter runs on the 12v and the drive circuits run on the 5v... Multiply each set together add them up and walla!  You get the total wattage drawn by the device.... ;D
