Abrupt unexpected shutdown & flickering (red blotchy) screen

Greetings,
My four year old "Notebook Computer", Model D4F seems to want to shutdown all by itself unexpectedly more and more these days.  That along with a red-flickering screen that comes and goes.  The fan is operating and the vents are clean.  Any ideas?  Failing motherboard?  If so, is it worth repairing?

1.  sounds  like a  heat problem     what brand is this ?  a  Lenovo ?  a few brands run real hot*

what is the laptop  worth ?    "I'm too  old to do a google search right now *

Thanks for your reply.  The "notebook" was made by Sager.  The heat causation occurred to me also.  If it is a heat - ventilation problem, do you think something (HD, motherboard, etc.) is being cooked?  If so, I suppose there's not much sense in trying to repair it since it would eventually reoccur.   What say ye?

buy an  "external"  fan,  it may help...  other than that ask  Patio*  good luck
