What's the biggest (Storage Space) hard drive you can get for a Satellite pro440cdx Laptop?

I believe 20GB. I haven't upgraded mine from the 2GB that it came with though. Can't figure out how to get to the HD....

Do you have a model number(s) for that drive?

the 20GB? hmm I'll search for it again, I recall searching to see what was possible for mine as well.

On the other hand- I would guess you could get any HD with the proper connection.
On the other hand your question is valid in that it might only support up to 8GB, being from 96...

those are compatible with the connectors- but the BIOS will likely have limitations- I would say at most around 37GB.

So what your saying is that the bios may not recognize the drive or report not it's full size?

So the 40GB one should work?

Well, I haven't installed a new drive in mine, but my old PC, a K6-2, BIOS date 1999, would freeze at the POST screen when trying to detect the large drive.

I was able to workaround it by setting a "cylinder reduction" jumper. Thing is I couldn't say wether the Toshiba will work with the drive, and if it didn't wether said drive would have this jumper  :-\

Information about the BIOS specs and so forth pertaining to the laptop is hard to find...
