Reboot and Select proper boot device
or Insert Boot Media in selected Boot device and press a key

Hi, I get the above message after installing WIN XP PRO SP2.
Background info: Built this PC for a mate and it died about 8 months after he got it. Tested the HD using Samsungs testing software, and ended up having to send it back for a warrenty job. Got a HD back from Samsung and proceeded to load WIN XP PRO SP2 on it. Install went thru fine up untill when it reboots, then I get the above error message instead of the second phase of the WIN XP PRO install.

    Specs are:
    ASUS P5VDC-MX Mother Board
    2GB Kingston DDR2 RAM
Intel 775 pin CPU (Not 100% sure what model it is)
    Samsung 400GB IDE HDD
DVD\CD R\RW Drive IDE (Not sure of the brand)

    Hope someone can help.

    Cheers!

More info on the above system specs.
The CPU is an Intel Core 2 4300 @ 1.80GHz.
      The R/RW DVD/CD ROM is a Pioneer.
The HDD is set to Master and the R/RW DVD/CD ROM is set to Slave.
I have tried various combos of Cable select, Master and Slave all with no luck.
The Bios sees the HDD and the R/RW DVD/CD ROM.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
      Cheers!

Also I have set the boot priority to HDD.
        Still no luck.

        Cheers!

Does this machine have 2 IDE channels ? ?
If so try removing the DVD drive from the HDD channel and hook it up on IDE2.

Yes the motherboard has 2 IDE ports and both DVD drive and HDD are connected to different ports. I will swap the ports and try without the DVD connected to the MB and see if that helps.

          Cheers!
