Windows media player running S l o w Windows XP
    « on: March 02, 2009, 07:48:01 AM »
Since I updated the drivers useing "driver detective" the Media Player program slowed down to a crawl.  I can't even burn a CD anymore.  I upgraded to MP 11, but no help, still running slow.  Any ideas? ???

Why? Was it anything wrong with them?

I didn't think so, however, I am also trying to burn DVD's from a software program that comes with my camera.  It was suggested that the reason the DVD wouldn't burn could be due to outdated drivers.  I used the program "Driver Detective" and it indicated that some of the drivers were outdated. so I ran the update.  Since I sent this email, I decided to download "RealPlayer" and that works fine.  I am going to uninstall WMP.  I don't understand the problem  as I can play music files.

      Thanks for your response.

Suggested by whom? Optical drives don't need any extra drivers in XP.
Never update any drivers, if there is nothing wrong with them.
Driver Detective is nothing more, but a rip-off.

agreed. But I foresee we will get several sudden posters that think otherwise... again...  ::)

Also I believe "driver detective" contains trojans- I would:

That is why you're there to help.  I have requested a refund from "Driver Detective".  I guess you cannot trust anything.  Determining which advice should be taken is a challenge. :-[

That's true- unfortunately as with many industries there are unscrupulous types trying to make a quick buck off of people who need help.
