Updating to windows XP?????

I currently am running windows 98SE. I have a windows XP upgrade disc that I would like to install.I have some programs that come up incapatable and some that say they may not run after the upgrade.
How or when do I do the new programs?Do I go to a upgrade before installing and if so do I say windows XP even though I still am running 98.
My cd rom proram is out dated and needs upgrading too if I install XP.When Should I upgrade it?I can't find the answers  anywhere.

Please, post some computer info:
- processor type, amount of RAM (hold Windows logo key, hit Pause/Break key)
- hard drive size (open "My Computer", right click on hard drive letter, click "Properties")
so we can see, if it's capable to run XP.

The above computer won't run XP.
It may be crawling, but you're not gonna be happy.
Processor is really slow, and you need at least 512MB of RAM.

Maybe I will just install some memory.But I would really like an answer if anyone knows.When do you  install the update for programs and drivers.Before installation or after?When asked for my system do I say 98 or should I download for XP after installing XP.
 Broni ..I don't know a whole lot about computors but according to the imfo on the XP I have more then enough system to run XP.I am confused why everyone keeps saying I do not.

Well, that's probably because we spent years around computers.
If your references regarding XP requirements come from Micro$oft site, they simply lie.
You need to listen to us, because we know.

Well, actually, you only need 128mb of ram to run xp.  I have a laptop that has a 500mhz intel cpu, 128mb ram.  Doesn't seem very slow.  Just can't do too much.

Stop giving him false hope...it's a waste of time to run XP on 128Mg of RAM...unless you like the hourglass icon.
