    Abnormal shutdowns
    « on: February 24, 2009, 01:14:58 PM »
    Hi,

I just installed a new power supply.  When I flip the switch on the PSU the computer starts, which is kinda weird, then it'll stay on for about 3 seconds and then shut down.  All the LEDs on the motherboard will still be on, but all the fans stop.  The power button on the front of the case does nothing.

    Any suggestions?

If this is a newer machine it sounds like you forgot to hook up the 4 pin ATX connector to the MBoard...
    Consult your manual.

I just checked it and it is plugged in.  I don't know why the computer would power on from flipping the PSU switch.  Do you have an idea why that would happen?

When the screen comes on it starts showing me what hardware I'm using.  It gets to the CPU but cuts off right after that.

Check to see you didn't dislodge the following installing the PSU :
      Heatsink/fan assembly
      RAM stick or sticks
      Vid card
      CPU fan plug.

      Post back with results...

I checked all those and they were fine.

Check your connection at the motherboard from the power switch at the front of the PC...check the switch as well.
