I would try Windows Updates first.

If that doesn't work then install the latest version of .Net Framework. http://www.filehippo.com/download_dotnet_framework_3/

    what one do I download?

        Have HJT fix this entry:

        O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Alcmtr] ALCMTR.EXE

        Quote
Realtek AC97 Audio - Event Monitor. "Sypware" file used surreptitiously monitor one's actions. It is not a sinister one, like remote control programs, but it is being used by Realtek to gather data about customers

        ----------

I don't seee anything related to the .Net Framework that we can use HJT to fix.

To resolve this, download Autoruns for Windows and search for the related entry and then delete it.

        • Create a new folder on your hard drive called AutoRuns (C:\AutoRuns) and extract (unzip) the file there. (click HERE if your not sure how to do this.)
        • Open the folder and double-click on autoruns.exe to launch it.
        • If using Windows Vista, Right-click autoruns.exe and Run As Administrator
        • Please be patient as it scans and populates the entries.
        • When done scanning, it will say Ready at the bottom.
        • Scroll through the list and look for a startup entry related to the file(s) in the error message > MFC71.dll
        • Right click on the entry and choose delete
        • Reboot your computer and see if the startup error returns.

I'll begin on the second part in a few minutes but why is Realtek monitoring my actions?

Also Does it matter where I place this folder???

Anywere specific or just on my main hardrive?
          Thanx

Just place it in a folder somewhere.

Realtek is installed by default, it's completely unnecessary and can be safely removed with HJT.
