Ah, Sigh, another BSOD, another day.....
« on: March 17, 2009, 02:07:06 AM »
Ok, well
Its me again causing some truffle in the computer world.
This time, my good old computy has done itself in....

Was playing CSS and it froze, then got BSOD, and it tried to reboot but failed....
I removed one ram stick which i suspect is playing up....

And then im able to boot again....

Alright, maybe its the ram.,....

So, now i need another 2gb of ram to suffice the old one....

Currently, I have 2x 1gb sticks in dual channel mode....

Now i was looking at some ram, on the msy website, www.msy.com.au
And i came across this '4GB Kit(2x2G)DDR2 1066 TEAM-XtreemDark'
Now how can i be sure this will suffice my computers specifications...

As in, the frequency is 1066 of the new ram, does that number really matter....
Heres what crucial said...

Each memory slot can hold DDR2 PC2-6400,DDR2 PC2-8500,DDR2 PC2-5300 with a maximum of 2GB per slot.
# Maximum Memory Capacity:  8192MB
# Currently Installed Memory:  0MB  <<<<<<<<<< lol, as if, i have 2gb installed crucial you idiot...
# Available Memory Slots:  4
# Number of Banks:  4
# Dual Channel Support:   Yes
# CPU Manufacturer:  GenuineIntel
# CPU Family:  Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q6600 @ 2.40GHz Model 15, Stepping 11
# CPU Speed:  2394 MHz

Now what ram can this pc handle,   considering the one i showed ...

I'm sorry the 1066 will no be compatible with your motherboard.

From your motherboard manual:
Quote
Support for:
⎯ Unbuffered, non-registered single or double-sided DIMMs
⎯ Non-ECC DDR2 memory
⎯ DIMM Type and Timings listed below:
Type Timing
DDR2-800 5-5-5 or 6-6-6 only
DDR2-667 5-5-5 only
DDR2-533 4-4-4 only

800 is the fastest memory that will work wtih your bus speed.

Look at the book

If you suspect that one of your DIMM modules is faulty, run memtest
http://www.memtest.org/
to confirm your suspicion.

There may be a different culprit responsible for your BSOD.

Alright, im putting my foot down, I have had it with this motherboard. Thats it, on impulse im buying a whole new setup.
Now I'll need all the help i can get from everyone here...
All i want to do is rebuild the basics. The M/b, the Psu, and a new HDD, all in a new case.
I'm hoping a fresh start with a clean HDD will solve my problems.
Ok, I have some preferences for M/b and Psu.

Can someone here tell me what they think of these...

M/b:
GA-EP31-DS3L http://tw.giga-byte.com/Products/Motherboard/Products_Spec.aspx?ProductID=2779
 GA-EP43-DS3L http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Products/Motherboard/Products_Overview.aspx?ProductID=2847
PSU&case:
no idea, help me out, a cool case would be nice, whats a good psu?

Thanks
