I found help in another forum on a different site!!!
My CD & DVD burners are not showing up when I click the my computer icon. They do show up when I open device manager but they have the yellow exclamation warnings. When I click properties I see this message "Windows successfully loaded the device driver for this hardware but cannot find the hardware device. (Code 41)" I have tried to delete the registry that a few other places have suggested to fix the problem:
Start Registry Editor (Regedt32.exe).
Locate the UpperFilters value under the following key in the registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
On the Edit menu, click Delete, and then click OK.
Locate the LowerFilters value under the same key in the registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
But I get an error message saying "cannot delete {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} Error while deleting key"
I have tried uninstalling the drives and rebooting but that doesn't work.
I am using Windows XP with service pack 3.
I have run virus, spyware and malware scans and they show nothing.
