slowness of my computer

My computer is a Dell Interl Pentium III processor 930 MHz 512 MB of RAM
I have Microsoft Windows xp Version 5.1

I have both on my computer Window Explorer and Firefox due to several months ago the news said windows explorer was having security trouble I am not fond of firefox it is much slower than explorer.

Also my daughter has in her Music documents 1.37GB of music and in her picture document she has 135 KB of pictures

My question is can any of these things be causing the slowness of my computer besides having dialup to into the internet?

For starters, you could use more RAM.

Check with Crucial.com and scan your PC for how much ram you can use and max it out since it's pretty reasonable these days.

Run the scans and post them as well......some P2P downloads may have given you a couple of gifts if your daughter downloads music.

The specs of that pc are starting to get a bit dated.  So, some slowness should be expected.  You can browse around this site or check out some of the following guides/sites for tips:

I just did a quick google search to find the above links.

1. Processor is a pentium 3, it's pretty slow and you should get that upgraded if you're doing more intensive stuff on pc

2. did you defragment your hard drive?

3. you should have at minimum 15% of free space on hard drive

4. do check for malware, as malware compromising computer can cause slowness

5. Firefox is not really slower than explorer but be sure you limit how many of those addons you got to reduce memory usage. I have firefox and it runs fine on my pc/
