website concept not design but function
    « on: April 20, 2009, 04:06:46 AM »
i was thinking about making a website where you can enter a file name and it will give you detailed information about the file like roughly size, location and what it does(system file ect) but im not sure if there is already a site like that were all the information is in one spot  so you dont have to go googling the file and look at a bunch of different sites to find out every detail about it.

so if you know of a site like this then plz tell me before i waste my time and everyones time too

Do you mean something like this?
    http://www.processlibrary.com/
It lists the description of a great number of processes (like exe and dll files). As for individual files, it would take a much more massive library that would need a lot of user input, like a wiki.

    http://filext.com/
This site lists file extensions, but not individual files for the most part.

For listing individual files and a brief explanation i don't believe such a site exists because of the sheer volume of files.......so go for it if you like.

We'll see you in about 22 years..... ;D

I actually had a similar comment typed up, but decided to take it out and suggest the 'wiki' style setup.  :P

Well, ProcessLibrary has apparently 300 million processes....

Someone has to enter all the information.

yea some one would and it would be me.. so wiki style might be a good option instead of a database

cuz i was thinking about including all files program system and all
i just thinking it would be a good idea because the sites listed are for different types of files and i want to put them all together.

if i did it wiki style instead of database would the wiki take up more space on the web

Hi Forgive if Im posting in the wrong place...I'm New to the forum and have a question..
I have a laptop its not that old about 3 years old... I have been haing problems with it turning off while I am using it, it turns right back on by itself after with a black screen that says "window error recovery" I contacted HP they had my do a "Power Drain" they also had my turn off my laptop and then turn it back on and press f10 repeatedly to get to the BIOS. I'm not sure if this worked since I just did this a few mins ago... But am hoping if anyone can help with anything else I can do if these steps did'nt work.
          Thanks in Advance ;)

soniaad, please start a new topic in the Microsoft Windows board.

so wiki style might be a good option instead of a database

Well, a wiki works on a database.....

if i did it wiki style instead of database would the wiki take up more space on the web

That doesn't really matter, to be honest. If your site gets big enough, you're talking about profit, not just "covering yourself". ;)
