What's the code? That tells us generally what the error might be.

It can be wiped and clean installed but you will lose your data and programs...
If you are using a DLoad of XP all bets are off.
You can also grab the FREE diagnostics for the hard drive from the drive manuf. site...
Windows does not need to be running for this.
Follow the instructions on creating a bootable CD and run the long test....
This will tell you if it's the drive.

Wipeing the computer is my last option I would like to save the information on the hard drive how can I go about doing this if I can't get this computer working?  Do you believe this to be a virus or is this something wronge on the mother board.  there was not new drives or programs added to the computer before this happened.  Are there any way around this blue screen that we happened talked about?

If you have a Windows XP CD, than boot up your PC from CD, when you see Windows setup page chose repair with R button, you are going to see the folder 1.Windows XP Professional or Home, you should chose 1
give the administrator password and when you at the DOS version of C drive, write this command and your operatin system will be fixed.
                CHKDSK /R press Enter.
It will take a some time to fix your OS but be patient. At the end when this fix command is finished just type EXIT and press Enter.
                Cheers.
