Computer was built by a reputable service shop. 4 years old. Brother gave up on it and bought a new computer, and gave this one to me to work on. Not much software on it. Used mainly for internet exploring. No gaming. Only had MS Office 2003 on it.  AMD processor 3500. Asus board.

Boots to Windows screen. Varies 10 seconds to a few minutes, the computer reboots. Happens every time.  Message comes up before the reboot that there was a system failure, and asks me to send or don't send the report. I don't care about losing anything on this, I can reload XP.

What should I do?

If u have a XP CD boot from it. Do like if u were going to install XP. DO NOT CHOOSE REFORMAT. Keep following instructions until a fix this option appear. Select this option, let it run. Write back and let us known what happens.

Reseat your ram and if no change swap in a power supply that you know is good. Make sure your fans are working and clean.
A four year old power supply is just that...four years old....most of the ones I change are in that time frame....some a little earlier, some a little later.

If it's a Hand-me-down computer and you don't care about losing any of the data, then go ahead and wipe it out. That's the first thing I do when I get a used computer.

However, the operating system may not be the cause of your problem.

Can you post the exact error message?
