17 seems little bit excesive.

Download Process Explorer: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896653.aspx
Unzip ProcessExplorer.zip, and double click on procexp.exe to run the program.
Click on View > Select Colunms.
In addition to already pre-selected options, make sure, the Command Line is selected, and press OK.
Go File>Save As, and save the report as Procexp.txt.
Attach the file to your next reply.

Killed one through removal of un-needed services. How do add the text file to a forum post? (file has been formated so that its not all jumbled)

System Idle Process is listed at 98.37%, so you're perfectly fine.

I didn't see svchost.exe running any suspicious sub-processes.
How much RAM do you have?

Just in case...

Download HijackThis:
http://www.trendsecure.com/portal/en-US/tools/security_tools/hijackthis/download
by clicking on Download HijackThis Installer
Install, and run it.
Post HijackTHis log.
Do NOT attempt to fix anything!

NOTE. If you're using Vista, right click on HijackThis, and click Run as Administrator

I know that nothing suspicious is going on, I'm just trying to clear unnecessary processes'

It's the best to leave processes alone.
