VLC player has crashed my system 2 times now and I mean dead lock. Can't even ctrl alt del. Had to power off. Any idea why it's affecting my system? It's happened twice. I can watch may be 2 vids on it then the system goes down. I've made my default back to MpcStar because it does not crash but any ideas?

    Navigate to: C:\Windows\Minidump folder.
If you see any .dmp files, zip all of them, and attach zipped file to your next reply.

Go Start>Run ("Start Search" in Vista), type in:
    sfc /scannow
Click OK (hold CTRL, and SHIFT, hit Enter in Vista).
    Have Windows CD/DVD handy.
If System File Checker (sfc) will find any errors, it may ask you for the CD/DVD.
If sfc won't find any errors in Windows XP, it'll simply quit, without any message.
In Vista you will receive the following message: "Windows resource protection did not find any integrity violations".

Press PrtScr, then open Paint, click anywhere on empty space, hold CTRL, and press V.
Save the file as .gif, or .jpeg.

Tried that. A black screen (dos like) jumps up then goes away well before I can read it.

    Hmmm...something wrong here...

    Download HijackThis:
    http://www.trendsecure.com/portal/en-US/tools/security_tools/hijackthis/download
by clicking on Download HijackThis Installer
    Install, and run it.
    Post HijackTHis log.
Do NOT attempt to fix anything!

NOTE. If you're using Vista, right click on HijackThis, and click Run as Administrator

    1. Unless you willingly installed Kontiki Player....
Go Start>Control Panel>Add\Remove ("Programs and Features" in Vista), and uninstall Sky Anytime (if present).
Download, and run KClean.exe: http://static.sky.com/kclean/KClean.exe to remove Kontiki from your computer.
NOTE: Kontiki is know resource hog.

    2. There is some infection present, so....
