    Unable to install Windows XP
    « on: May 09, 2009, 10:27:56 AM »
I am using a P4 based computer with 256MB RAM. I don't have a UPS and the power supply is sometimes fluctuating. I have Windows XP SP3 CD with latest updates. I tried to reinstall Windows by quick formatting "C" drive with NTFS.  When I tried to install, Windows Setup ran fine but uptil it said, "Setup will complete in about 35 minutes" (halfway to "installing devices"), and could not go beyond that. I have other two XP Cds with SP2, both of them also could no go further till it said, "Setup will complete in about 39 minutes". Is the problem due to the unstable power supply or because of the NTFS format? Please help.

    Just a few points:

Don't use the Quick Format Option.
NTFS is the correct format for Windows XP
Get more RAM. 256mb is the absolute minimum for Windows XP.

If there is a problem with the power supply, that would be the problem.
