Cant Boot
« on: May 14, 2009, 09:39:55 AM »
Recently my computer stopped working and couldnt reformat the hard drive.

So now i have a new hard drive and have connected it up to master, cables in correct place.

When i start up my pc it says: "Searching for boot record from IDE-0...OK"

"Non-System disk or disk error
Replace and press any key when ready"

There are no disks in any of the 2 cd drives or floppy
Im guessing the hard drive isnt formated so it cant boot from that
When i try to boot from the official windows xp home cd is just says the boot record is not found.

In the BIOS menu it see's my hdd and both CD drives and floppy.

I dont know how i can get it to boot so i can install windows :(
I was thinking of downloading FDisk from another computer and putting it on a floppy but when i try to format the floppys it always fails, im guessing the floppys are duff.

Any help would be appriciated as ive been tryin to fix it for a week now :(

You are unable to Boot CD for re-install of Windows XP
Here things to check:
1. Get into the BIOS.
2. See if BIOS can identify broth the Hard Drive and the CD-Drive.
3. Set Boot order to floppy, CD-Drive then Hard Drive.

Restart the computer. Watch for the message;
Strike any key to start CD...

Does any of this help?

If you can't boot from the windows CD the CD could be bad too. Try another one if you have, or borrow from someone. You could also try ultimate boot CD, usually that can fix all sorts of problems.
