windows keeps asking for drivers I don't have.
« on: May 16, 2005, 01:10:48 PM »
Hi, my problem is this.
I was given a computer for spares, I took out the hard drive, which was bigger and had some good software on it, and replaced it for my old one, which was broken. When I boot up, it says "windows has dectected new hardware and is locating the software for it. " then a wizard comes up saying that it hasn't found them and asks me for the windows 98 CD. It asks for the following drivers:
PCI serial controller,
standard PCI graphics adapter (VGA),
PCI standard host CPU bridge.
Can anyone tell me where to get them from? possibly send them to me ?
also, sometimes it says "windows protection error, you must restart your computer" when windows loads.
???
I am at a complete loss.

Windows 98 requires 3rd party drivers for video, modem, sound.  With make and model of computer, you can download drivers from the computer manufacturer's website.  If you have a no-name computer, you'll have to read the make and model number from the plug-in cards and download the drivers.
