creating a new folder in windows xp

If I hold down the Alt button and left click on the Windows XP desktop, is it suppose to be the same as right-clicking?  Because when I Alt-click on my desktop nothing happens

Nothing happens for me either. Why cant u right-click? I know that the command button plus click is like a right click...

I'm sitting going through a practice exam for my A+ cert. exam on Monday, and one of the questions said to select "two" ways you can create a folder in Windows XP....ONe of the correct choices, according to them, was to "hold down the ALT key while left clicking on the desktop, then selecting "new", then selecting "folder"    It's called an Alt-Click

I realize right clicking will do the same thing, but I'm just trying to figure out if the exam is wrong, or if my OS is malfunctioning

push the menu key and pick new....etc....
