    computer won't start
    « on: May 22, 2009, 06:23:42 AM »
    hi
    my computer is dead
the fans and green led work, the hd led works for a minute or 2 but no beep comes out, the monitor says 'no signal'.
i tried replacing the power supply but nothing has changed. the last breath of the computer was getting stuck with the screensaver on...i tried rebooting and the rest is written above.
is this the graphic card or mayb the motherboard? is there anyway of knowing without sending the computer 2 a shop?
any advice will b helpful thanks
    roee

Double check all the connections you made when swapping out the PSU.

Try it with only 1 stick of RAM in the slot closest the CPU.
See if this makes a difference...if so you may have a bad stick of RAM.

What else changed on this machine prior to the issues ?

        the ram didnt change anything
i think the problem occurs much sooner than even adressing the ram. the computer doesn't seem 2 even start. no beep just the lights of the cd rom and the hd led.
the 3 lights on the keyboard r stuck and won't respond either. before the crash i did nothing special. i've never encountered such a problem. very very sad.

Borrow another PSU and swap it in there...
If you have one use or borrow a PS2 keyboard as well and try it.

Trying to do all the low/no cost tests here first...

sorry but u'r not even close - no keyboard will help me while there's not even a signal 2 the monitor. the PSU is completely new. bought it 2day 400 watt - more than enough 4 a 4 year old computer.
          thnks

I may not even be close but consider this:
A 400 PSU for a newer machine is borderline...even at 4 yrs old.
The manuf. of the PSU is a consideration as well...i've seen brand new 30 $ PSU's that are junk...
The keyboard may make a difference even if it's a new one.
If you are getting no display i'd also swap another monitor on there.

You asked for suggestions now you're dismissing them which is fine.

          All they are is suggestions.

          Good Luck.
