I have a WD 500GB External hard drive (http://www.wdc.com/en/products/products.asp?driveid=351) that i cant connect to my laptop as the connection port inside it has broken off. I have stripped it to just the bare hard drive and now need to connect it, i took it to a repair shop and using a wire the man said he could get everything off of it for a fee of £15. Is there any way i can get the information off of it myself? A wire i can purchase or something?

A sticker on the hard drive reads (not sure if its any help):

"Master/Slave jumper not required for SATA"
"Jumpered pins 3 and 4 enable PUIS (Power Up In Standby)"

Please help, i have data that i really need on it as well as all the documents from my old laptop and PC.

Thank you in advance!

Jack

Is the drive a SATA? Or IDE? Does the connection to the drive look like a bunch of pins in 2 rows or does it have a small black slot?

If you have removed it from the enclosure it can be hooked up to any working Desktop machine to retrieve your data...
If IDE set the jumper to slave...
If SATA it needs to be connected to SATA slot 3 or higher.
