    Windows repair and profiles
    « on: May 31, 2009, 10:32:41 AM »
Quick question, If I do a windows xp repair install and the system has two profiles already installed on it do I lose those profiles? Do I lose Internet explorer cookies after the install?
Please let me know cause I'm dead in the water right now.
    Thanks

I don't know about the first bit, but by doing a repair install you will lose all files and data on the computer.

I'm fairly sure you will lose all profiles too, and a default administrator profile will be created after the repair is done.

OK I will need to do a repair installation of Windowsxp and do not want to lose my stuff in the profiles. Now I have moved all the data in the documents and settings folder for all users and for each other user. They are safe on another drive. What I need is also to save the cookies from IE and from Firefox to this other drive. How do I do that? I can't find where they are located.
      Please help.......

Why do you need the cookies? They're not used much except for remembering passwords for sites.

Well there is one game I play that holds all the info via a cookie so I don't want to lose that.

If you backup everything in the AppData folder to a flash drive, and then paste it back after the re-install, your cookies will still be there.

But, you'd be better off backing-up everything before re-installing.

Unless some file is causing troubles, making the OP want to reinstall...so basically back up everything that you would WANT.

A Repair Install if done properly does NOT lose any data at all...
