Want an advice against 'Task Scheduler' Service!
    « on: June 09, 2009, 04:52:02 AM »
    Hi Guys!

Can I set the 'Start-up Type' of 'Task Scheduler' Service from Automatic to Manual?
I prefer manual updating of my Antivirus/Antispywares & frankly there are No Tasks I have set to run as per schedule!

What repercussions could I face on changing its 'Start-up Type' to Manual! Could it result in with Windows not updating itself for the latest patch?

    Post a HJT log first.

    • Save HJTsetup.exe to your desktop.
    • Double click on the HJTsetup.exe icon on your desktop.
    • By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Hijack This.
    • Continue to click Next in the setup dialogue boxes until you get to the Select Addition Tasks dialogue.
    • Put a check by Create a desktop icon then click Next again.
    • Continue to follow the rest of the prompts from there.
    • At the final dialogue box click Finish and it will launch Hijack This.
    • Click on the Do a system scan and save a logfile button. It will scan and the log should open in Notepad.
    • Click on Edit > Select All then click on Edit > Copy to copy the entire contents of the log.
    • Come back here to this thread and Paste the log in your next reply.
    • DO NOT have Hijack This fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or required by the system.

I'm not sure why an HJT log is necessary?

You can safely disable the task scheduler.  Read more >here<.

Some malware adds services called Task Scheduler, but with a different filename. Just asked to post one as it might not be the usual one.

It gives me an assurance & moreover I can quickly Wrap-up the things for more important work on Internet rather than to HOG my Bandwidth with Automatic Updates running in the background making the Surfing experience slowed down!

Its all the in the Mind!...You know! ;)

I don't know, what you use, but my Avast updates in a few seconds, and all I can see is a notice from Avast:
      Avast database has been updated.
