    Upper Left Toolbar...
If you don't have it it can be added...
Right Clik an empty area of the Toolbar and select Customise....there you can select items to be added/removed...

Also Alt + back arrow works as well...this works in any browser...

P.S. What version are you running and with what theme ? ?
Some themes remove it for some ungodly reason...

You can also use the backspace button on your keyboard.

Do you have your Navigation Toolbar displayed?  Right click near the top of your browser window to see the option to display or not display the Navigation Toolbar and Bookmarks Toolbar.

Also, you should be able to right click somewhere on a web page and see Back in the context menu, assuming you have, in fact, visited other pages before viewing the current page.  Forward can also be accessed from a right click menu.

          I'm really confused.
As earlier suggested,I rgiht clicked and read the displayed menu
          The 'back'was subdued,and not available.
However, when you suggested it,I tried again, and it was available.
It worked fine,as well as the 'forward' option.
can you tell me what determines when these options are available?
          thanks

          Yes...
And Firefox makes this easy to miss.
When you go to View and clik Navigation Toolbar it toggles it on or off with no switch per se'...
So it's there or not depending on if you clik it...
          Hope this helps.

The high lighted text should answer your question but I'll re-state my reply.  Suppose you just started your computer, you just started your browser, and you're looking the first page since you opened your browser. If you right click on that page, then Back will not be available, i.e. will be subdued, because you have no previously visited page to go back to.  The same logic applies to individual tabs in a tabbed browser.

The top two lines are the same.
The third line is different.I have 5 favorite sites, instead of the ones you illustrated.
I am still waiting for some explaination  for the 'customize' menu.

              Yeah,
Now,I do have a green backbutton in the upper left corner, just like
              I always wanted.
I suspect that, when I rt clicked the toolbar, and subsequently clicked 'navigation' on the menue,I inadvertantly installed the green backbutton..
              Thanks,

Yep, it's part of the Navigation Toolbar.  That's why I asked you,
Do you have your Navigation Toolbar displayed?

I am still waiting for some explaination  for the 'customize' menu.

Well, just take a  look at it.  Suppose you want to add a Copy button to your Navigation toolbar.  With the Customize Toolbar panel open, just drag the Copy icon up to your Navigation toolbar and drop it there.  You now have a new button, the Copy button on your Navigation toolbar.  Or, with the Customize Toolbar panel open, click the Add New Toolbar button and add a completely new toolbar.

Thanks;you said just what I hoped that was the thing to do.
My origional hope was that a backbutton would be on the menue.
However, the backbutton materilazided when I clicked 'navigation toolbar'.
                I'm doing OK with Firefox,now.
I am going to do away with my AOL,right now.
