Monitor works every second time

This is me doing a friend of mine a favor; he has a problem with his computer which he's had since he got it. I don't know the exact specs, but what happens is that when he press the power on button the monitor doesn't get a signal. He turns it off and on again, and voila the monitor gets a signal and works fine. If he turns it off and on again, he gets the exact same problem.

Does anyone know what might cause this?

Can you hook this monitor up to your computer or another spare computer and see if it has the same results?  If you need additional help, you can reach me at ResourcePC.

I read your reply to the other monitor-thread and I've asked my friend to try a different monitor. I'll get back to you with the results
