long wait until shutdown selection in XP
« on: May 23, 2005, 06:30:57 PM »
When I go to the start menu and click the turn off computer icon, it takes about 3 minutes for it to come up with the 3 options. Any Help?

Robby..... I would be running some type of anti spyware software ........ And try deleting the cookies , temp and history files .......... open Ie and click on tools/Internet options ......general tab ......then click on delete cookies , delete files and then clear history ...then apply and ok .

If you don't know the answer, it isn't a dumb question.

    Robby:

These Microsoft Web pages have some good steps for troubleshooting shutdown problems:

    http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;308029

    http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=kb;en-us;313290&spid=1173&sid=1192

If you have a broadband (DSL or cable) connection, you might want to just watch the Microsoft WebCast on the topic at this link:

    http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;326841

If you haven't already installed Service Pack 2, i'd recommend trying that after you try all of DL's suggestions.  See this link:

    http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=kb;en-us;320008&spid=1173&sid=1192

    Regards,
    Doc
