    I lost my notepad.exe in win 7
    « on: May 10, 2024, 07:15:32 AM »
    Out of nowhere, it just disappeared on its own, as far as I know. One suggestion was to add a certain syntax to t he command prompt and it would appear. I tried that and a notepad screen appeared ready for input text, so i stared listing my medications and then chose to print it out, then disaster came. I had listed 6 meds. and seperate sheets of paper came out of my printer showing indvidual medicatins. I would WANT only one sheet showing 6. Normal notepad would have done so...so is there a way to get back my notepad?

    If you need an editor just download Open Office. It's free and very good.

      Thank you...it looks interesting but confusing by what they offer. They offer 2 'packs', one full dist. and the other Language. and if I am not mistaken one cannot be downloaded withour the other, please correct me if I am wrong. I just want a simple editor and english...

        Is there any possibility that this could be helpful:

        Of course, you've probably already checked a MS Help page, but thought I'd offer, just in case.

        Also, did you try using command prompt and typing in C:\Windows\system32\notepad.exe?

            Okay, but to go further with troubleshooting would require some information from your end as to what you have tried thus far?

            I suppose I really should have started at my end with a question before I offered what I did, and that is whether any sort of Windows Update was done just before you noticed notepad was gone? Whether any security update or scan was done using a third party tool? Any sort of system change?

            Actually, the Windows Update would likely only be of the security sort. I don't know if that other update program I paid for on one of my units is still running as I haven't been to that house for a number of months. This Win7 unit here at this work station only gets the security stuff updates.

            One more thing, but pulling on old memory here, and my memory is slipping with age and the chemo, so might be unreliable. But I seem to remember that notepad was a favorite target of security related attacks, so that may be worthy of a thought --- maybe a BIG "may be".

            But, even so, I wouldn't be too happy if a tool such as that just up and left the system. Of course, your unit may be the first case of true AI changing to be creative on its own and didn't like that software. If that proves to be the case you now have a one million dollar computer. Maybe worth more.

            Try Notepad ++

              That's true, Notepad++ is good, as also is the idea posted above about an odt product; but the truth is that Notepad just up and disappearing is a concern over and above the choice of editors.

              No program should just disappear like that. Personally, I think trying to figure out why that disappeared should be first on the ToDo list. Then decide if you want to reinstall it or just get another editor. Truth is, on all my units from Windows 7 to Windows 10 I have a number of editors installed on all. Each has a purpose.

              But, to repeat, I strongly suggest the reason for that MS Notepad up and leaving should be figured out.

              And sorry about that AI joking. This really isn't a joking matter.
