Will it be worth upgrading my CPU to a Q6700?
    « on: June 23, 2009, 06:51:30 PM »
I wanted to upgrade to a 3.33 GHZ Core 2 Duo CPU but my motherboard wouldn't have been able to support it. The motherboard will seemingly support up to a 2.66 Core 2 Duo (E6700) or a 2.66 Core Quad (Q6700). So if I may take some suggestions, will it be worth shelling out some extra cash to go from a Core 2 Duo 2.4 GHZ (E6600) to a 2.66 Core Quad (Q6700)? Will I really see a signifigant boost in Performance with PC Games?

I'm planning on doing a full blown upgrade once NVidia released a *real* next generation Video Card (A PCI Express x32 card, perhaps), but I thought that maybe I'd go for one last "Hurrah" with my old hardware until them. But only if it's really worth it.

Here are my system specs, if they are needed:

Intel Core 2 Duo 2.4 GHZ
    4GBs of memory, 667 MGZ
    NVidia 260 GTX
2 hard drives. My Primary Hard Drive is an 80 Gig Hard Drive, my secondary Hard Drive is a 320 Gigabytes SATA.
And I'm using Windows XP, Second Edition.

And here is my motherboard, the increasingly outdated thing:

First, what are you going to be doing most on your computer? Play video games, watch video or something else (in addition to the usual surfing the internet, word processing and the basic stuff)?

What type of games? It could be anything from Pong to Call of Duty: World At War.

Yeah thanks for backing up my response. LOL   ::)

... and would you (T-6000)  be able to list a few of those many PC games so we know what video games you like to / want to play?  ;D

Mainly much of the shooters from 2007 to 2009, such as Unreal Tournament 3, Gears of War, Call of duty world at war, Half-Life 2 Episode 2, F.E.A.R. 2, Left 4 Dead, and such, as well as upcoming future titles such as Left 4 Dead 2, Wolfenstein, and Singularity. I also want to make it as future proof as I possibly could until I do a full blown PC upgrade because while I plan on upgrading in maybe 2010 or 2011, something may come up and I may delay the upgrade.
