    Warned with Avira Warnings!
    « on: June 25, 2009, 04:52:10 AM »
    Hi Geeks! :D

Like many of you, I do not gaze through the entire Antivirus Scanning Process. Just TURN OFF the Monitor & walk away for some 30-45 minutes!

Now Thank God though Avira didn't detect any Threat, the "Final Window" reflects 4 Warning Messages!?

What could these be? & should I wary about the same? :o

Check this Out....An Exclusive Avira Antivir Screenshot!

***Global Green Message: Turn OFF the Monitor whenever applicable & help conserve Energy & reduce Carbon Footprints!

    Hit "Report" to find out.
Probably it's just some files it couldn't access during the scan, maybe password protected archives or the paging file.
Probably nothing to worry about, but best to check.
    Hope this helps.

Avira will almost come up with at least one warning, "The file could not be opened!", usually for pagefile.sys.

If you click 'Reports' and scroll towards the bottom, you will probably see this:

    Quote
    c:\pagefile.sys
[WARNING] This file could not be opened!
[NOTE] This file is a Windows system file.
[NOTE] This file cannot be opened for scanning.

However, I can't say for sure what the second file would be, so I won't speculate there. But, like Calum said, if you click 'Report' and scroll towards the end of the report, it should tell you what the two warnings were.

      Thanks Guys! :)

Probably next time, I'll hit the 'Report' button to have an insight. Iam assured for now that there is nothing to worry about! :)

Please do spread the word for "Global Green Message"!

While I am pretty sure about the one warning, pagefile.sys, what was the second one?

You should be able to safely ignore all of those warnings. They're all something to do with Windows and are no real threat. Avira is just letting you know those files could not be scanned due to their nature (archives).

          Thanks Quaxo! :)

I liked your Avatar! But....with ref. to your reply; do you wish to state that Avira supremacy could be circumvented using Archives?!

          Just a 'Wild Thought'..you know! ;)

What about Avast? Is it good while scanning archives? ::)

It's just the nature of those particular archives and the page file. Most AVs can't scan them, they just don't bother to tell you. It's always good to double check though, since some viruses can generate the same error on certain files.

Don't confuse these types of archives with the 'archives' zip, rar, ace, and the like. Most other types of archives AVs can see right through.

If you want to really make sure your system is clean, you can follow the steps on this link:
          http://www.computerhope.com/forum/index.php/topic,46313.0.html

Then post the logs here. One of the malware guys will come along and take a look at them and help you clean up anything that shouldn't be there.
