    DVD codex missing

    I have recently  re install windows xp on my computer and its all working fine except one thing. when i put in a dvd i cant watch it on windows media player it says that i am missing a dvd codex and to download one. i cant find any dvd software for this and they all want me to pay $50 or more to buy a new program. i would like to just get windows media player working to play dvds ( ive tried vcl media player) it was working before i re installed the software. any help would be much appreciated. thanks

        i installed it and the media player classic works for playing dvds not the best quality and looks like it laggs a little but it will work.

        You can also try Gom Player, it's decent as well.  http://www.gomlab.com/eng/GMP_download.html

        But, I think one media player you're comfortable enough with should suffice  ;D
