Harry 48, apparently you haven't read a word I've said:

In an earlier post I said: "when inserting the cd, all I get is the blue scree, NO MATTER WHAT I DO!"

So again, my question is can I boot it from the blue split screen when I press F2?
I've been gone all day, so I will go ahead and see what happens when I do that...
    Thanks anyways...

No CD is needed to run system recovery. By the way if you wanted to boot from CD you would need to hit F12 from the Dell logo screen and select CDROM drive. But, If you get a Blue screen from booting from CD Rom you may actually have a hardware issue. Try running the system recovery. When starting your computer, you will see the first Dell logo screen then you should see a blue line at the top of the screen with " www.dell.com" in it. Thats exactly when you hit the F11. You have about a three second window. If you miss you have to try again. I usually have people start tapping F11 immediately after the first Dell screen so they don't miss it. If you don't see the blue line at the top with "www.dell.com" You may not have a system restore partition. But anyway it's bedtime for me now. I'll check back tomorrow to see how it went. Good luck !

I don't know what type of disk you got from restoredisk.com but you may run into some licensing issues. you may need to activate windows after running thy repair installation and might not be able to. I would order a Dell branded Windows  installation disk from Dell to be on the safe side. If your the original owner of the computer. They used to ship it out free of charge. They may charge a $10 shipping fee.

2 reasons this is not solid advice...

You can't run the Recovery Console from some OEM XP CD's...

You cannot run a Repair install either.

The only choice you get with those wipes all your data and takes the machine back to Day One status...not what she's looking to accomplish here.

            Your knowledge is questionable.
