    Making DVD from video capture
    « on: July 13, 2009, 05:46:23 PM »
I would appreciate any help with this new (for me) adventure. To be brief, I have a satellite tv digital recorder with 60 hours of old movies that I would like to put on DVD, but not sure how. I would like do this before some glitch erases them. Basically, I need to record them onto my hard drive, edit them, then record to DVD. I guess the best thing to do is tell you what I have.

A computer with 20 free gigs of hard drive space
A new 500 gig ext. hard drive
    One Gig Ram
Toshiba DVD - R burner in the computer
    Hauppauge USB video capture device
Sabrent TV Tuner/Video capture card (not yet installed)
    Assorted software:-
Nero Suite 6, (Nero Express 2)
    Windows Movie Maker,
    Ulead DVD MovieFactory SE
    Hauppauge WinTV
    DVD Shrink

I have used Nero to edit short mpegs, but nothing as big as a full movie. I have used DVD Shrink successfully to copy actual DVDs, but don't know if it applies in this situation. I do know some of these movies are over 2 hours long and the DVDs only allow 120 minutes, so if I could edit out any commercials, they may fit the DVD and that would be great! I will appreciate any help on this, even pointing me in the right direction. Thank you.
