Stuck in safe mode

I recently moved my computer to another room and when I hooked it all up again, the monitor will not come on.  It shows a black screen and when I push one of the three buttons on the front of the monitor it says ----- in safe mode push any key or move mouse, but when I do this nothing happens.  It was fine when I turned it off and moved it.  Please help

Are monitor lights on?
Are computer light on? Can you hear hard drive, fans spinning?

If the machine was moved you need to double check all your connections...inside and out.
