    Browser problem
    « on: July 10, 2009, 12:37:03 AM »
    Hi

    I hope someone can help.

My daughters computer has a problem in viewing the internet.

I recently removed Norton Anti-virus (time expired) from her computer and installed AVG Free. Since then I have not been able to gain access to the internet.
The connection to the wireless router is fine. Emails work and MSN messenger works fine.
IE was the browser being used, so I loaded Firefox as an alternative, but this is exactly the same.
I have tried switching off the windows firewall but that makes no difference. Any suggestions?

Download and run the Norton removal tool

    Restart the  computer

        Hi

Many thanks for advice. I tried the Norton removal tool, but it has not made any difference. Any other suggestions?

As a workaround for now go here...

          http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/upgrade.html?from=getfirefox

Download and install on her computer.  Now at least she'll  have decent Internet access while you work on the problem.

Uninstall AVG, using AVG Remover: http://www.avg.com/download-tools, and see, if it helps.

Many thanks, removing AVG cured the problem. I have now loaded Avast as my anti-virus and that appears to work ok with no problems with the browsers.
