    constant beeping

Help please... - new to this forum so apologies if anything wrong...

I have an emachines E4036, Windows XP. Last night the whole system 'froze' 2 or 3 times. To start up again I disconnected the power then waited & re-connected. This worked once for short while, then again froze.

Now - when turned on, all I get is a continuous fast beeping sound, with nothing on the screen (says no signal received). By 'beeping sound' I mean a regular / fast / on-off beeping.

With the help of my son we checked the RAM board connection, trying in other slot & making sure it was re-seated correctly. Still no success. Have tried disconnecting all plugs from rear of computer (except power lead) but still get same beeping sound when turned on.

I understand the type of beeping should tell me what is wrong, but I can't find any answers elsewhere.  Help please...

    All answers gratefully received.

    Thank you.               Jim

Were you working in the case before the problem started?...... see if you have any bulging capacitors on the MB.....the caps have a + on top.....Make sure your processor fan is working......Is the heat sink flush to the MB all around......try one stick of ram at a  time......reseat the video card if you're using one....Beep codes are found here...

thanks for reply - no - not in the case at all before this problem.  Have tried all other suggestions - & it appears the beeping does not tell us in this case exactly what is wrong.  On the likelihood that it is either the motherboard, CPU, RAM, or PSU, it's probably not worth the expense of replacing some of these when I can buy another similar basic PC for < £230

Thanks for help - good to know that there are people willing to help without charging £70 just to diagnose the fault !
