I don't think you need to reformat your computer when installing a new processor.

I'm not an expert, but you just need to remover the cooling fan, remove the old processor, insert the new one, add a small pea-sized amount of cooling paste to the bottom of the fan and replace, then see how it goes.

Oh no, DO NOT PUT GLUE ON YOUR COOLING FAN!!!

There is a substance designed to get into the tiny bumps on the surface of the fan base called thermal paste.

You can get some from any major computer store pretty cheaply or from here: Click

Just curious, what model core 2 duo do you have and what core 2 quad are you installing?
I found thermal paste at Radio Shack if your close to one.

Is it important?

If you really want to make sure that nothing will go wrong, follow patio's instructions, but please remember, be careful.

Also remember to ground yourself before touching anything inside.

That would be a good idea if you don't mind paying out to get someone to do it for you. It would also be the safest thing to do.

You don't have to reformat the hard drive for a cpu upgrade. Check your list of supported CPUs for the chipset.
